Nokia Asha 501 With a New Software

Nokia today in New Delhi, India announced the new Nokia Asha 501 which is the first ever Nokia Asha phone to be running on a new operating system.

The Nokia 501 is a touchscreen phone with a 3-inch QVGA screen (320 x 240) covered with hardened glass up front, the internal memory is yet to be known but it comes with a 4GB Card and can take even up to 32GB. It will come with both the single and a dual SIM phone with ability of changing one of the dual SIM without putting the phone off, it has not 3G facility do data on the Nokia 501 will be via 2G or WiFi. It has a 3.2-megapixel cameral at the back but no front camera. The new interface focuses on swipe events there’s no need for menu or home keys due to that swipe-based UI features of the new software platform.

The new Nokia Asha OS will be a very social platform with Facebook, Foursquare, Linkedin, Twitter, Youtube and more available out of box.

The new Asha platform promises to be very efficient – the 1,200mAh battery in the Asha 501 is enough for up to 17 hours of talk time and 48 days of standby (26 days for the dual-SIM).

The Nokia Asha 501 will start shipping in June in 90 countries on 60 operators. It will cost $99 before taxes and subsidies for the single-SIM version.
